Chick Sitting Eggsperience
The Eggsperience
On Friday May 15th, I took home two baby chickens. The gold/brown chicken is a bantam chicken named Daisy and the black chicken is an Americana chicken named Sunny. I was responsible for taking care of the two chickens in which I had too feed, give water, and change the newspaper of their box several times a day. Nevertheless, throughout the weekend, the chicks were brought along to my grandparent's homes up north in the Thumb. While there they met several family members as well as several different animals including 6 baby raccoons! But of course they were kept safe! On Monday May 18th they were returned to school. Enjoy the slideshow below of the eggsperience!
Chicken and Human Embryological Similarities
- Four chambered hearts are fully developed after first starting out as tubes with thickened muscle walls.
- Both have tails in early development.
- Both go through a stage where they have slits and arches in their neck similar to a fish.
- Three gestation periods before birth.
- Both need the combination of a sperm and oocyte to form a zygote to begin the developmental stages.
- One of the two chambered hearts are to do pulmonary circulation and the other to do somatic circulation.
- Both develop with a spinal cord and are vertebrates.
- Branchial arches develop at about the same time and the same place for the two.
- Both are protected during development either by a shell or by muscles within a mother.
- Eyes are developed very quickly in both animals.
